Garmin eTrex Summit Review

by

Kevin Watson

The size of the Summit is relatively small and compact measuring 2" wide,4 3/8" long with a thickness of only 1".

The unit easily fits into a shirt pocket and can be carried easily.

I found the Summit to be accurate to within ten to fifteen feet when using the Go To and the electronic compass works very well.

It will take fixes from an aircraft, I took several at speeds of 115mph and didn`t encounter any problems.

Buyer Beware

The Mark Waypoint navigation numbers are way too small and the 0`s, 3`s and 8`s are very difficult to distinguish from one another.

I say minimize the guy with the flag and maximize the numbers at the bottom so people can actually see them!

I contacted Garmin to inform them of the problem and the response was less than satisfactory...

Thank you for your inquiry.
At the present time there is no software to increase the numbers size.
Thank you and best Regards,

I am not a mountain climber and do not have a use for either barometric pressure or elevation and the only reason I purchased the Summit was due to it`s compact size and simplicity of use, it`s still not the perfect GPS for hunting or trapping in my opinion but if Garmin decides to increase the size of the numbers so the user doesn`t have to guess at what they might read then and only then would I consider the Summit to be a worth while purchase.
